An Ruadh Stac |
This week I'm running a 5 day hillwalking trip based in Torridon. Some of the finest mountains on Earth. Bridget, Stewart and Campbell out on day 1 to tackle Maol Chean-dearg. The weather forecast was looking decidedly 'rough'. With rain/sleet and high winds forecast all day. The showers were all in the morning, a dry and brighter aafternoon.
Sunshine snd showers |
Maol Chean-dearg stans in isolation on the south side of Glen Torridon. With no ridges and a longish walk-in seemed a good option as any ridge walks were definitely out.

The winds were too strong to get to the summit, at least 60mph at 600m. A good effort and some fabulous views, as always. Its very rare I turn back groups in Summer because of high winds. Its normally a winter decision I've to make.
Windy here |
Summit clear, so annoying |
Wonderful lichens |
We turned tail and headed back down. It was a dry afternoon and some lovely spells of clear tops, blue skies and sun.

Excellent trails |
The paths in this area between Glen Torridon and Glen Carron boast some wonderful walking paths that are a joy to walk on. Another area in the Highlands where if you tire of walking here you should hang your boots up and do jigsaws or something boring.

Hopefully lighter wind speeds over the next few days. Lovely and peaceful with only a handful of bikers seen in the afternoon.
