FIRST SNOWS OF THE SEASON

The cliffs of Coire an Lochain with first snow of the season, 17th October

We've had some wild weather the last couple of weeks. Another 'named' storm passing through has  I write this blog. Storm Babeth making its impact with windspeeds in excess of 100mph on Cairn Gorm summit today. Last weekend it was wild and much colder with some snow on the higher Scottish mountains. I was running a landscape photography workshop last weekend, based in Ullapool. It certainly would have made challenging conditions on the summits so we decided on some lower locations. In-between all the wind, rain and poor weather we've enjoyed the odd day of respite with lighter winds, clear skies and sunshine!  Monday and Tuesday of this week we had stunning clear skies and sunshine. With snow lying down to 900m on Monday. On Tuesday the snow in N and W facing corries and on the high Cairngorm plateau was holding on.

here are a few images from the last couple of weeks.

We had 2 days based in Ullapool on one of my landscape photography workshops. We had some fine moments last Saturday in the beautiful Coigach area.

Back home and the Cairngorms were looking a winter wonderland after the cold, wild conditions over the weekend. It is, of course, quite normal to get snow and freezing temperatures in the Scottish mountains in October. The cold and snowy nature will come and go over the next few weeks. By November we will, hopefully, be in proper winter conditions. My winter courses and diary are filling up. If you have specific dates  and especially weekends then booking early is highly recommended!

Roughly the same location as the Trailing Azealia less than 1 week later!
