FIACAILL RIDGE, STUNNING

We did that!
Can we do this?

What a complete contrast from yesterday, it was an absolute stunner today in The Cairngorms. Liah on day two of her course with me and with such a wonderful day we opted for a day along the Fiacaill Ridge. With a avalanche forecast on many slopes of Cat. 3, a ridge is by far the safest option. We waded up to the foot of the ridge in glorious sunshine. Very deep snow on lower slopes. If you are planning a day out just now then you should maybe put another couple of hours on to your estimated time. We took the route to the side of the pinnacles. A lot of wind slab on these slopes so we kept high up, tucked in just below the spine of the ridge. Heavy ploughing and wading. There is now a nice trench along here, we were the first along. We climbed up to the second half on the ridge and enjoyed the wonderful arete to the top. A very cold day but simply stunning views. A day for Liah to savour.
