MONTFORT TO PRAFLEURI

Approaching the Col de Prafleuri

The Haute Route has two sections of high and remote land. There are two mountain huts and no other accommodation along the way. Cabane du Montfort lyes at over 2400m. We had a superb clear morning as we set off along the Sentier de Chamois. This high lovely traverse to the first of There Cols today. All the way along are fine views of the Grand Combin. We saw many ibex and Chamois just below the sometimes sensationaly exposed path. Even more ibex spotted along the Route to the Col de Louvie. The descent from the Col still has snow for around 500m in length. This takes us down to the Grand Desert, a landscape of moraine boulders and small lakes, reminents of the retreated glacier. The final fun for the day was the awkward descent shirrly before the final rise to Col de Prafleuri. A steep wee descent on snow and rock. All todays Cols just u below der the 3000m contour. A day of high lovely rollercoaster hiking amongst fine surroundings. An easy descent to the Cabane de Prafleuri for our overnight.
