The summit of Sgurr na Stri
The stunning weather up here in the Highlands continued today. Again the NW seeing the finest conditions with completely clear skies. Ian and I headed west for the day and to the beautiful island of Skye. When the sun shines on this Hebridean island it is just stunning. It has been some 20 odd years since I last went up Sgurr na Stri, first time for Ian. You tend to forget how spectacular some walks and viewpoints are. Standing at a lowly altitude of 494m this fabulous peak gives one of the finest views of any mountain range in Scotland and of course the rest of Britain (The summit of Snowdon was recently 'voted' the best mountain view in the UK, ermm!!!!) This wee peak consisting of Gabbro rock may be small but it is a long walk in form anywhere. You have to earn you views! Not only did we enjoy the best view of The Black Cuillin mountains, we also had dolphins jumping about in Loch Scavaig and an Golden Eagle soaring above our heads. What a day! We lingered on the summit for an hour. Our plan was to go up Bl Bheinn after this top but we didn't want to rush our day and just had a leisurely stroll back down Glen Sligachan in glorious early evening light. We got to the Sligachan Hotel for a cool beer, just as the full moon was rising above Marsco, Skye Magic!
