Penultimate day on this final Tour du Mont Blanc this summer.  Nice to be back in 'the mountains ' after the two previous days. Today's section of the route goes over the Col de Balme and back into the Chamonix Valley.  Most TMB Walkers go the shortest way possible which isn't particularly scenic. The route via Tseppes Alp is far better and not much longer. After a steep walk up three forest you come up to an unspoilt Alp, Tseppes.  This area is like what the Alps used to be. You also get a stunning view looking onto the Trient Glacier. The trail contours around the back of the Croix de Ferr and eventually climb up to the Col for views of Mont Blanc.
