MONADHLIATH

Wide open spaces and sunshine

A beautiful day in the Cairngorms. Sub zero on the high tops. We had a 10 hour day in the Monadhliath without setting foot on a single Munro. The Monadhliath is the largest area of hill and moorland in the UK, a far bigger area than the Cairngorm plateaux. If you want solitude and wide open spaces plus wildlife then this is for you. If you don't like walking on pathless terrain then it's not for you 😉.

Not 1 but 3 Mountain Hare snowholes

Poor visibility in the morning above 600m

Mountain Hare tracks and Scots Pine

We saw no one all day. Plenty of wildlife including Mountain Hare,  Red Deer, Curlew, Oyster Catcher, Dipper and Stonechat.

River Dulnain

Water and rock

Low hills, big views

I could get used to all this zero wind on the mountains. 😀

Mountain Hares busy

Deserted hills

A distant Braeriach
