TRUE WINTER

Fab fresh snow

Even blue skies

Brilliant hard ice and snow for cramponing

Wild winds on the plateau

Snow to lower ground

Burns beginning to freeze up

Down again

Coire an Lochain
Finally we are back to proper January winter weather and conditions today. Fresh overnight snow to 500m and showers into the morning.  Another breezy, wild day of 50mph+ winds on the Cairngorm plateau. Day 2 of this winter course, we headed into Coire an Lochain were we got some nice shelter. Nice to hear the ptarmigan croaking away in the background. We concentrated on good axe and crampon techniques. Later in the day we had a recap on navigation in winter. Top couple if days with two great folk.
Winter continues.
