INTRO TO SCRAMBLING

Catherine on warm rock
Today I was out with 11 members of the Culter Mountaineering Club on An Intro to Scrambling day. With Scott & Tom who are both MCI qualified instructors we headed onto the Fiacaill Coire Sneachda. A perfect place to gain excellent movement skills with the option to take the easy path on one side of the ridge.

A grey and dull morning

Sunshine on the ridge
We had a discussion with the group on what they wanted out of the day. The members of the club had a broad wealth of experience from fairly new to walking up to Munro completists and rock Imber. We set off from a midgy Coire Cas carpark and a dull, overcast morning. With another weather forecast of thunderstorms in the afternoon we kept an eye on skies throughout the day.
Nice big rocky holds

Enjoying the views

A fine afternoon

There was 30 minutes of very light rain around midday,  then the skies brightened up and a beautiful spell of weather, perfect timing as we enjoyed a dry and sunny ridge.

Everyone did a great job and eased into the fun scrambling. We reached the plateau with darker skies to the South. So a quick descent down the Goat Track. It actually brightened up again an we walked out in lovely warm sunshine.

Well done to the team and a big thanks to Tom & Scott with their input and instruction today.
