NAVIGATION COURSE

Map and compass

Gemma, Emma & Ali out with me today on a 1 day Navigation Course in the Northern Cairngorms. After an hour over coffee and maps in the cafe we headed out onto the hill.

The team

High on the plateau

Unfortunately the tops were clear all day. But getting off paths for the vast majority of the day makes the map and compass skills more interesting and featurelessground not so simple as you may think.

The only company today

We covered lots of  ground to hone the No.1 hill skill. It's great to see lots of new folk joining on to my Navigation Courses, it opens up a whole new world and skills that will stay for life and give you the confidence to explore the hills. Not stuck just downloading Internet routes. We saw not a single person all day.

Trailing Azaelia

Cloudberry

Nice to see the first Trailing Azaelia in flower above 900m on the plateau. One of my favourite Alpine flowers that grow here in the Cairngorms.  The Cloudberry is also in bloom. Summer not far away.

Found the snow

Playing in the snow

Great team and fun ladies who go away with a wealth of essential map and compass skills for their future adventures.
