WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY DAYS

Juvenile Snow Bunting
MONDAY 9 AUGUST

Last Saturday whilst out guiding we came upon a Female Ptarmigan with her 4 offspring. Today I went back into the coire with the big glass in the hope of seeing them again. I spent 3 hours walking through, over and around every boulder and rock in the coire, but no Ptarmigans. During the morning I did, however, spot at least 10 Juvenile Snow Bunting which was absolutely wonderful.

Sunny in the coire by late morning

It was an overcast morning with zero wind at 900m. The midges were out! By late morning the clouds broke up a bit and some nice sunny spells. Aswell as the Snow Bunting I also spotted many Wheatear,  Meadow Pipit and a male Ring Ouzel, all Juveniles.

TUESDAY 10 AUGUST
Wildlife Photography Workshop today. We headed to the Monadhliath,  Mountain Hare being the subject, of course.
Shower clouds, another unsettled day

The weather has been quite unsettled of late. Forecasts have been interesting. Most days some thunder to be expected in the Strath but strangely none in the mountains. Maybe something to do with lower temperatures on the hills? Certainly been very little, if any wind high up. The morning looked the more promising half of the day.
Juvenile Wheatear

We wandered about to my usual Hare hotshots. It was very quiet and only 2 seen in the first couple of hours. Nice to see a few Juvenile Wheatear who were very inquisitive and kept perching and fliting about on the rocks.
Sitting nicely
Early afternoon and we were rewarded with one of my regular hares who always piluts on a good show. Plenty of yawning and scratching with paws. Although I suspect the midges were as much of a nuisance to him as they were to us. There was a faint breeze now and again to blow them away. But who cares about midges when you have such a posing Hare?

Yawning and smiling

Looking lovely in the heather
The Ling heather is just starting to come good. Another week or so and it will be in it's prime. Hopefully some good opportunities to get that wonderful,  colourful background with the hares. Today wasn't bad mind.
Thinking time

Good posing

Those hard to get at itchy spots
Some great cloudscapes going on above and around us. With rain never too far away. A good soaking on the way down wet, but happy.
Rain ahead
