NE'ER CAST A CLOUT TILL MAY IS OUT

Sunshine & showers today
May 2022 hasn't been one of the driest here in the Highlands. Some quite wet days plus a lot of high winds on the summits. Occasionally we've had the odd decent day but overall a wet, windy and cool one. We go into the final week of the month with a forecast of snow showers on many high summits across the Highlands. The old saying ' Ne'er cast a clout till May is out' certainly rings true this year.

On Sunday we got a good soaking in the Monadhliath,  heading up the Corbett Gairbeinn along with it's neighbour, Corrieyarack Hill which was demoted from being a 'twin Corbett'.These two hills are of equal height, 986m.

Corrieyarack Pass
The two hills are easily accessed from Gava Bridge and the walk up the Corrieyarack Pass which gets you up high very easily.

After a soaking in the afternoon we got back and it dried up, of course!
Evening sun!
Lots of wonderful wildlife low down in the glen including Red Deer,  Roe Deer, Fallow Deer, Curlew,  Oystercatcher and a newly born fold.

TUESDAY 24 MAY

A promise of some sunshine inbetween the showers this morning. With light winds it looked like a reasonable day to visit the local Mountain Hares.

Some fine sunny periods
I spotted Mo Charaid early on in the day.  He was just shaking off the last shower when I got near him.
Just another shower, no big deal

When's the next one?

What a face!
I love this time of year on the hills where I regularly photograph the Mountain Hares. The vegetation is a riot of colour in Spring. The Cloudberry has just started to flower. The mosses are vibrant and other flowers such has milkwort and bleaberry are gorgeous.

I saw no one all day. Absolutely bliss. Also lovely to see a group four Hares together.
