Sandra was out with me today on a one day Navigation course. Not a winter hill goer and only wanting a 'summer' navigation day. With that in mind we headed onto some slightly lower hills in the Cairngorm area. The 'Sgorans' as they are commonly known are perfect hills for some navving skills. Featureless, easy angled contours and not so many paths make for ideal terrain to hone the map and compass skills. Sgor Gaoithe is one of only two Munros on this vast plateau above Glen Feshie. There used to be five Munro summits a few years ago. We stayed on the lower 800-950m hills. Despite a forecast of heavy showers and moderate winds, we only had one 15 minute hails shower and hardly any breezes. There are still huge areas of old snow in the north corries and on the higher plateau. Still very much winter on the hills. A fine day over in The Cairngorms tomorrow with lots of sun and light winds. Should be good.
