Prafleuri to Arolla

Mont Collon
The route from Cabane Prafleuri to Arolla takes us through more wild and constantly changing Alpine scenery.  A steep but short walk to the Col de Roux give fine views of the Lac Dix and the big mountain of Mont Blanc de Cheillon at it's far end. A stroll down through green meadows sprinkled with marmotts and an easy,  level walk along the lake before we ascend to the moraines. As we leave the Alpine meadows behind we get closer to increasingly spectacular glacial terrain. The final climb up to the Col de Reidmatten is steep, bouldery and loose rock. There was an Ibex perched on the crag above us, watching us toil up to the 2987m col.  The alternative Route to the adjecent Col de Cheveres is lower and has a series of ladders and meal walkways to gain it's col.  I like to take the traditional,  natural and higher Reidmatten.  Of course the usual spectacular views from the top. A lovely descent back into green meadows with Eidelweiss and marmotts enroute to the small town of Arolla and back to civilization.  A beautiful hot and sunny day again. Grand Alpine walking.
