FIRST STORMY DAY OF 2011

Fresh snow fall today on the west coast. Most of the day there was precipitation in the form of snow above 600m. Elisabeth, Gerry and I took the Nevis Range gondola (quite a bumby ride!) onto Aonach Mor for a day of avalanche awareness and assessment. The strong Westerly winds were depositing windslab deposits rapidly so perfect  for our day. We headed round to The Nid area and soon hit by blizzard like conditions. We weren't expecting to get the gondola back down but the winds had eased and got the last car down with the Nevis Range staff. More snow to come the next couple of days.
