WINTER SKILLS DAY, DRY, WINDLESS & EVEN SOME SUN!

Laura was out with me today for a one day winter skills course. A huge dump of overnight snow (again) down to Aviemore level and with the overnight strong winds persisting it meant another day of chaos at the ski road up to Cairngorm. Laura and I put Plan C into action and headed across to the Allt Mor area from the Sugar Bowl car park. With heavy, soft, deep drifts it was hard work again ploughing anywhere but with so much snow around we didn't need to travel too far to a suitable area to get all the vital skills in. On the north bank of the Allt Mor there are big areas of wind scoured snow so perfect for step cutting, crampon work and a bit of sliding. It was wonderful not to feel any icy wind, spindrift or  a lack of views. We even had some lovely sunshine this afternoon. The walk back through the forest to Glenmore was magical with the trees full of snow.
