Final day on Craig & Lynne's Cairngorms walking holiday today. They've had some fabulous weather over the last 5 days with me. We finished in style on the finest of all the Cairngorm mountains, Braeriach. There are dozens of ways up this complex and remote Munro. The weather forecast was for rain by late morning so we chose the quickest, shortest route up via the Chalamain Gap from the Sugar Bowl carpark. It was a beautiful, clear skies morning. Despite a cool start the midges were in force. Even when we got bright, hot sun the buggers were still biting. High up on Sron na Lairig it was finally a midge free zone. Stunningly beautiful. Just like the previous 4 outings with the couple from Seattle, we were setting a good pace, reaching the summit in 4 hours. The cloud stayed away to the south and we basked in lovely sunshine. A lovely, quiet and wild descent is via the Northern Corries of the mountain. Here there are three easy, broad ridges that take you into a remote setting where you will not see any other humans. The main coire holds the lonely and beautiful Loch Coire an Lochan. A fine spot. Some pathless traversing from here back towards the Lairig Ghru. We were in luck as not a single spot of rain as we retraced our route back to civilisation.
A fantastic five days with two lovely folk. They were blown away by the sheer beauty of our mountains. They may be back. :)
