Coire an Lochain |
Walking in the Cairngorms has it's own unique attractions. One of these is the winds you need to cope in. These hills are the windiest in the UK. When you get a calm day it's rare. Today wasn't a calm day. Georgina & Stuart out on a 2 day course this week. For their first taste of Scottish Winter walking we headed into Coire an Lochain. 5 minutes after leaving the Coire Cas carpark it was clear we were in for a breezy day. Even though it was only about 40-50mph winds, there was a huge amount of snow being blown around, most of it in our faces. Eventually we got some shelter in the Corie and could run through some movement with boot and axe techniques. For lunch we got the group shelter out. An essential bit of kit for every hill goer, summer and definitely winter. A life saver and in this case a warm place for a picnic and sorting gear. Top marks to G&S for coping in arduous conditions. All part of winter walking.
