Nearing Windy Col

Good snow cover

Shelter from the winds
Mess of Pottage

Coire an t-sneachda

Still reasonable snow cover

Heavy snow here
Jillian was out with me today for a one day of winter walking and  recap on some essential skills. She recently completed all 282 Munros. The conditions were of a typical Scottish winter. No sun or blue skies here. Instead it was cloud, gusty winds, temperatures hovering around freezing and deteriorating visibility. The snow cover I good in places. Some consolidating in the milder temperatures. There's an old snow base which is firm with fresh snow on top. We made our way up to Windy Col with great snow cover. After lunch we had a couple of hours of Navigation, finishing on Cairn Gorm. The windy theme continued as we headed down Windy Ridge with temperatures rising to above freezing and snow turning to rain below 1000m. Great day out
