Hard snow! At last. Step cutting |
Wednesday 18th January.
Day 2 for Ian & Simon on their winter course with me this week.
Deep snow |
Snow falling at Aviemore level this morning. Snowy up Glenmore and the snow gates were closed. So we headed up to my lovely quiet area near Meall a' Bhuachaille.
Clear skies |
Snow ploughing |
Hasty pit |
We covered navigation, emergency snow shelters, avalanche awareness, axe arresting, step cutting and snow ploughing. If you're heading anywhere off the beaten track be prepared for some hard graft and tiring work.
Easy shears |
Emergency snow shelter |
More ploughing |
Whilst the high Cairngorms were cloaked in cloud, we enjoyed lovely views and some sunshine today.

Loch Morlich starting to freeze over |
A top 2 days with the guys who go home with a shed load of essential skills to keep safe this winter.
