Saturday 7th January.
Dan out with me today on a 1:1 winter skills in the Cairngorms.
The winds were much lighter today so we got to make a journey around the Northern Corries, visiting Coire an t-sneachda then Coire an Lochain, finally heading to the summit of Cairn Lochan.
We went through lots of vital boot, axe and crampon techniques throughout the day.
The freezing levels slowly dropped by the afternoon. We had a great mix of soft snow, firm snow, water ice and frozen turf.
It was a tad breezy on the tops with poor visibility and a wee bit chilly.
Typically, the top of Cairn Lochan cleared half an hour after leaving the summit.
Dan came on one of my courses in preparation for his winter ascent of Mt. Toubkal in the Morrocan High Atlas.
Great to be out in true Scottish winter conditions. Almost went onto a 3rd pair of gloves today. I rate a 'good day out' by the number of gloves I go through.
