Another sub zero day, minus 9 this morning at the house. I took the West Highland line train out to Glenfinnan and headed up Sgurr Guisachan, one of the most spectacular mountains on the west coast. Most tourists see this in the background when taking pics of the Glenfinnan Monument. Today it was another day for lots of photos. As expected i saw no one on the hill all day. It was hard going, as expected, in the unconsolidated snow, with some knee deep drifts in places. There was hardly any ice on the crags. There is some great scrambling on the ridge to the summit, grade 1 terrain in winter, shame no ice though. But this is more than compensated with the spectacular views down Loch Shiel. It was much milder on the descent. Big temperature rise is forecasted for at least next two days, just what we need for some serious thaw/freeze to the snow pack.
