It started snowing 10 minutes after leaving the Cairngorm Mountain carpark today, just another usual late May kind of day! Edward is with me for a couple of days, getting some nice mountains and some winter skills thrown in as an added bonus. We headed into Sneachda and we covered some basic winter skills before tackling Point Five Gully. There was a strong, cold NW wind and blizzard like conditions up in the gully, wonderful! It really was winter like. Edward made short work of it and we were soon on the plateau and goggle conditions. We wandered over to Coire Domhain and dug a snow shelter for a wee break. Plenty of snow here for a full on snow hole still. The skies cleared as we walked around the top of Stag Rocks, getting a nice windless and beautiful view for lunch. Rounding off the day with a Munro summit on Cairn Gorm. Great day out and a great mix of winter like conditions. It is after all the 19th May and it's not the first time this month that I've been teaching winter skills!
