Baddoch & Sgor Mor |
Second walk day for the Braemar Mountain Festival. Billed as a 'intro to snowshoeing day' but with no snow it turned into another day of 'summer' hillwalking walking. Today's route I decided to take the long North Ridge of Carn Aosda from Baddoch. This makes the Munro a far nicer route than the usual walk up the ski area at Glenshee. It was a fine morning with some sun. As forecasted the winds increased during the day and the cloud rolled in. From Aosda we walked across to Carn Gheoidh. Just before reaching this next Munro we received the first snowfall for a long time. Winter returns! By now it was quite blustery but our descent into Glen Baddoch was swift and soon into calmer conditions. The long walk back through the glen got wetter and by the time we finished we all had a good soaking. Great to see the snow falling above 800m.
Another top group and great craic. We managed to get some more navigation skills into the day.
Hills may well look whiter in the morning!
