BEN MACDUI, NAVIGATION & WHITE OUT

Poor visibility on the plateau

Day 2 with Steve who is out on a 4 day winter course this week. Today was all about the winter no.1 'skill', Navigation.

We decided on a day up Ben Macdui, always a great testing ground for the no. 1 skill with map and compass.

Today was perfect conditions. Cloud below the Coire Cas carpark all day. New snow down to 500m. Poor visibility all day with a good chunk of near white out conditions. Mix that up with very low temperatures on the top (minus 6 C) and a steady Northerly wind, sprinkled with light snowfall in the afternoon. Top it off with ankle deep snow most of the day and just to spice it up we did the last 90 minutes in darknes

Steve came out with top marks.

We didn't see a single person all day from carpark to carpark.

Fabulous winter conditions and a lot of snowfall to come 😀.

Apologies for no sweeping vista photography today, there wasn't any! 😉
