THE FREEZE AFTER THE THAW

Crampons,  yeah!

Fabulous snow conditions today in the Northern Cairngorms. Work colleagues Brogan, Richard and Alan out with me for a day of essential winter skills. This was their staff Christmas day out. What finer way to spend it.

Coire an Lochain

The recent wet and warm 24 hr period has transformed the snowpack after an overnight refreeze. Brilliant cramponing above 900m. First day this season for the spiky gear. We were well sheltered from the high winds, tucked away in the corrie and had hardly any breeze to bother us.

A top day and highlight was a wonderful wee mousey who came to say hello to us at 1000m.
