MY WINTER GUIDING BEGINS

Steve enjoying the first winter snows

Winter finally arrives!

After a relitively warm and wet November with little in the way of winter days we finally seem to have winter 2022/23 under way. A cold, Northerly airstream has brought the first real and serious snows to the Cairngorms.

Snow down to 600m

Coire an t-sneachda

A fabulous day in the Northern Corries Of the Cairngorms today. Steve is out with me for 5 days of winter guided walking and fun. Steve has been out a few times with me and we've had some great days over the years. He must have ordered up winter conditions in time for his visit.

Sunshine by mid morning

There is snow down to 600m in the Cairngorms. An excellent early season covering. Very low temperatures on the tops but zilch wind. We had glorious sunshine for the vast majority of the time.

Worth the trip up from Bristol

Winter

A great start to my winter guiding season.

A lot of snow forecast to fall over the next few days and staying well below freezing on the hills. Summit temperatures down to minus 9 Celsius.

Poor visibility on the descent  - are your navigation skills up to scratch?

From the top of the Goat Track to Cairn Gorm summit and down to 900m it was poor visibility.  Are your winter navigation skills up to scratch? You'll need them over the next few days.
