HEATWAVE BEFORE WINTER RETURNS

The Northern Cairngorms today
It's been a very unseasonably warm period in the Cairngorms and elsewhere. Temperatures in the mid yo high teens at strath level isn't normal for the later stages of March. It was virtually unbroken sunshine all weekend.

The summit of
Saturday 26th March.
Another glorious warm and wall to wall sunshine  in the Cairngorms.
It's been a fair few years since I was last on Carn an Fhreiceadain above Kingussie. Probably over 25 years ago, not long after I completed all the Corbett hills.
So it was nice to walk It's easy tracks again today. It commands a wonderful view over Strathspey and the Cairngorms. A quiet hill with few folk about, just us 4 , some mountain hare, butterflies, Skylark and a couple of buzzards.
Late afternoon views across Strathspey

Sunday 27th March.

Clear air and fabulous day for Mountain Hare Photography. I had a last minute booking from Dean who was keen to photograph the hares before they morph into their Spring pelage. He also wanted to grab a day of perfect weather for lying around on the heather and observing these wonderful aanimals.

My friend in is usual form

Stunning afternoon

We had some brilliant moments with the hares, a couple of which are just starting to transform their coats into Spring. The other 3 hares ( including my friend) are still almost completely in their winter pelage.

Fabulous day and bright, warm sun in the late afternoon. Magic.

Get your big coat and gloves on tomorrow, it's back to winter all next week 😀

Hares later 😀
