MORE OF THE SAME

Alpine Coire an Lochain

Another Alpine day in the Cairngorms. Gaby out with Tarmachan Mountaineering on day 2 of his preparation for climbing Mont Blanc this summer. Superb condtions again. The snow softening as the morning drifted into the afternoon. We had Coire an Lochain to ourselves and Cairn Lochan summit to ourselves, and the finest view point in the entire Cairngorms to ourselves.

Superb condtions in Coire an Lochain
It was quiet at Coire Cas carpark once again. A pleasant walk in to the Coire under the warm sun. Wonderful snow at the Twin Burns which is holding lots of deep snow.
Heading up to the plateau

Wall to wall sun again

We saw only 1 person on the walk in. Up on Cairn Lochan summit there was no one either. No signs of any Climbers. There was icy areas high up but these were melting under the warm midday sun.
Western aspect of Cairn Lochan
There was hardly any breeze on the tops. Sunny skies and warm temperatures. There have been cooler nights which is keeping all our wonderful snow. Only a very gradual thaw taking place at lower elevations,  below 950m.
Blue skies

The Cairngorm Plateau is still with full snow cover. We had lunch at the finest view in the Cairngorms. There have been hazy skies last couple of days. Almost like a summer haze.

Full snow cover
Slowly we made our way back to Lurchers Ridge and down to summer conditions.
Lochan Buidhe to Ben Macdui.

Fiacaill Coire Sneachda & Coire an Lochain

A brilliant couple of days with Gaby who goes away with plenty of essential winter skills to stand him in good preparation for The Alps.

Same stuff tomorrow!

I could get used to this :)
