WINTER NAVIGATION

Windy navigation
Day 2 on Emma & Alan's course with me this week. With more gales forecast on the high tops we ventured to lower altitudes in the Monadhliath for a day of Navigation.  As you know, I constantly bang on about navigation being the 'no. 1 skill' in winter aswell as Summer. It was a bearable wind at 800m this morning,  later in the day the gales eased off a bit and we could have a conversation.

Blowing sideways at 800m

Snow loss at 790m
The Monadhliath are perfect for navigation on pathless terrain in Summer. Despite the milder temperatures today there were still big areas of snow to make the navigation winter and challenging.  We even managed to spend time with my Mountain Hare friend.
Less windyby mid afternoon

There's a reason these trees have a permanent slant!
